Not your average summer job

Jennifer should have known something was up when her job-title read "Decoration", but the ad she'd responded to had said that all she needed to do was look pretty and wear a swimsuit, so she'd figured that it was just her employer having a somewhat dark sense of humour. She'd been lead through a huge estate, one filled with statuary and - oddly - various dolls and mannequins as well - all of them female. When they reached the pool - the biggest Jen had ever seen - her employer had to go back into the house, and told Jen to change into one of the suits in the change room then relax and go for a swim.

Alarm bells should have been ringing in Jen's head when she saw the change room, it was filled with mannequins, all wearing different suits, all unique except for a pair of blondes, and all of them had roughly her dimensions. She briefly thought about leaving then and there, but decided that while it was strange, it was really harmless. She looked over the suits, ranging from one-pieces to barely-there bikinis and settled on a one-piece with an opening in the back. She left the change room and didn't see her employer anywhere, so she decided that if there was a pool in front of her, she may as well swim in in. Posed around the pool were more mannequins and statues, and Jen spent about half an hour swimming between them, examining each one. There were Indian-looking mannequins posed in swimsuits fashioned after saris, classic Greek statuary posed in the nude with bodies that made Jen jealous, and one of Jennifer's favourites: a group of Asian mannequins posed around one corner of the pool wearing stereotypical Japanese school-swimsuits.

Jen had just finished making her round of the pool when her employer came back out, and asked if she wanted a picture to commemorate her first day at work. Jen still wasn't sure exactly what she would be doing, but decided a picture would be nice, but asked if she could dry her hair first - she wanted to look great for the picture, not just good. Her employer was fine with that, and had even anticipated the question and tossed her a towel. Oddly she was asked to stay in the water while drying her hair, but it was warm so she didn't mind. After drying and fixing her hair she waded over to the steps out of the pool, went up a few steps, then grasped the rail with both her hands, leaned back into the water, and flashed her employer a dazzling smile. Her employer's camera flashed, and with the picture taken Jen made to get out of the pool, but found that her body wasn't responding.

"Welcome to my collection Jennifer. I know you're only a temporary exhibit, and I did have you in mind to round out my schoolgirl collection for the summer, but I have to say I like you right where you are. To be greeted by that smiling face every time I step in or out of the pool will certainly make my swims more enjoyable."

Hearing what her employer was saying, Jen had a guess as to why she suddenly couldn't move, a guess which was confirmed when she was shown her "first day picture". Jen was now just another mannequin decorating the pool, and she couldn't bring herself to be mad about it. She'd seen the various signs that this was going to happen, and chosen to ignore them, or maybe - deep down - she'd gone ahead with it because she'd seen them.

"Well Jennifer, I hope you enjoy your next three months. You'll be compensated well for your time here, and I'll see to it that nobody questions your disappearance for the summer."

Depending on how much I enjoy this Jen thought I might be negotiating a contract extension when this is over.
